Bridge reinforcement generally refers to restoring or improving the bearing capacity of existing bridges by strengthening members and improving structural performance, so as to extend their service life and meet the requirements of modern transportation.

Basic principles of bridge reinforcement and maintenance:

1) When the bridge structure cannot meet the requirements of structural safety or normal use due to structural failure or damage, it shall be reinforced. The content and scope of the reinforcement design shall be determined according to the evaluation conclusion and the requirements proposed by the entrusting party, which may include the whole bridge, the designated section or the specific components.

2) Establish an economic analysis model for the maintenance and reinforcement of existing bridges. Through analysis and comparison, the scheme that is technically feasible, economically reasonable and with little interference to existing traffic is selected to ensure the safe operation of the reconstructed bridge.

After the reinforcement scheme is modified, the construction can continue.

10) During reinforcement construction, safety monitoring measures shall be taken to ensure the safety of personnel and structures.

Requirements for bridge reinforcement and maintenance:

1) The technical transformation and reinforcement of bridges are usually required to be carried out without interruption or as little as possible interruption of traffic. 5) The balance between the strength, stiffness and service life of the new and old structures should be fully considered in the technical transformation and reinforcement plan to ensure that the new and old structures work together, so that the strengthened structure can achieve the purpose of safety, reliability and durability.
